Heirloom Quilt for Marin

About a year ago I set out on a journey to make my sweet neice Marin this quilt.

I carefully sewed each little line.

I carefully cut each row of fleece to make chenille.

And when I was done this is what it looked like. I have to confess I wanted to wrap myself up in this quilt and wear it everyday. That's how bonded I was to this creation. But I knew that it was only meant for Marin.

Now when I started this quilt, Marin looked like this.....

When Marin finally received this quilt she looked like this.......(Did you catch her shirt? Yep that's right! In February! They just found out!)

I love this little girl and I've only met her once. But I love her just the same. And now she really knows it! Quilts take lots of time and lots of love. And if Marin's  Mom loves me as much as I think she does she will be chasing Marin's college bound car down the road waving this quilt over her head yelling, "Don't forget Aunt Betsy's quilt!!!!!"

This is my letter to Marin that I included with her quilt:
Dear Marin,
This quilt is for you. Like a lot of things in life this quilt has been quite a journey. When I picked out the fabric we had just found out that you were a girl! At first I started sewing on your quilt every chance I could get. When your cousins went down for their naps I would start sewing those long straight lines that you see. It was very calming for me. I just kept on sewing! And then life happened, and I had to put your quilt aside for several months. I picked your quilt back up this past March and worked on it until it was done. It’s not perfect sweet girl, but you can be sure of one thing, it was made with LOVE. Here’s a truth in life that I have learned: Anyone who makes you a quilt LOVES you a Whole lot! When I first started sewing I thought about you and wondered about what you would look like and what your personality would be, but as I finished up I would think about you and know what you look like and look over at your picture on my fridge of you in your bunny ears! You are just a little over 5 months old now and you are beautiful and happy and such a joy to your Mommy and Daddy. I’ve never seen my brother (that’s your Daddy) smile so much.  You are blessed precious girl and I hope that every time you look at this quilt you will know how much I love you. I loved you the minute your Daddy told me you were on the way, and my love for you just keeps growing!
With lots of love,
Auntie Betsy

We all love you so very much.

So sweet Bets. It's beautiful.

God has said, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:5-6
